Is there an admission fee?

There is no admission fee for Meiji Jingu. Fees are charged at some facilities such as the Museum in the precinct.

How much time is needed?

If you are just visiting the shrine itself, you will need around 1 hour. If you intend to visit the Inner Garden and the Meiji Jingu Museum, it will likely take around 2 hours.

Are there any non-Japanese guided tours?

A. There are no official guided tours.

Can I store my suitcase somewhere?

A. There is nowhere to store suitcases inside the Meiji Jingu grounds.

Does Meiji Jingu have a Goshuin memorial seal?

A. We do. There is a counter near the main shrine building. We also offer Goshuincho books.

Is eating and drinking allowed?

A. Eating and drinking is only allowed in the designated areas. We ask that you refrain from eating and drinking anywhere else on the grounds.

Do the shops in the shrine grounds take credit cards?

A

The restaurants and gift shop take credit cards. The amulet office, the Kaguraden, and the Goshuin counter do not.

A. Please park your bicycle in the bicycle lot by the entrance to the shrine grounds before entering.

Yes you can. However, please note that photography is prohibited in front of the main shrine where people are praying. Please also refrain from taking photos of the amulet office.

When is the best season to visit?

Meiji Jingu is worth visiting in each of the four seasons and at any time of year. Meiji Jingu is home to a lush natural setting that will make you forget the fact that you are in Tokyo. There are various rituals and events through a year.
